We are off to "Boating, Camping, Fishing" this morning to get an esky, some lanterns (to do homework by) and other camping paraphernalia required for our 'home camping' adventure. The boys reckon this is going to be fun.. and I'm sure that I will meet some interesting folk at the local laundromat when the need arises to action some washing. Main concern is getting lunches organised. My almost teenager eats like a horse hence takes an esky to school.. icepacks for esky?... hmmm, we'll work something out. We have gas so I can cook meals and boil water.
So today is 'Operation Home Camp'.... getting set up for our (please be no more than a week or two) camping at home. Wish us luck. I am sure there will be plenty of blog fodder over the next few days. Anyway, you will find me at 'The Coffee Club, West End', each morning after school drop off... sucking their power for my computer and phone, doing a blog post or two. I'll be the one with the 'non blow dried/GHD'ed hair' looking like she's just had a very cold shower! Actually I might just wear a cap for the next few weeks.

You may surprise yourself about how resourceful you can be.
Maybe look at it as a personal challenge - pretend its saving the planet from more greenhouse gases (lol)Just kidding!
You will be fine and it will be fun. At least you have the gas. That will make a big difference.
And I am sure the schools expectations about what the boys are able to achieve at home will be reasonable considering the disaster.

ReplyDeleteI have always wanted an excuse to go to Boating, Camping, Fishing ha...be careful not to come home with a giant blow up thong for the beach..ha. I always think of those early Australians who came here with a dozen children and lived in remote hot areas...it must have been so hard! Well my dear you are now a pioneer... and all I can say is thank goodness for tuck shop!! If the boys need a TV fix I am not far away...there is currently half a dozen extra boys at my place, so two more (plus lizards ) would hardly be noticed..ha cheers Katherine

ReplyDeleteLooks like basic food that doesn't require to be kept overly cold for lunches this week. Do they like vegemite sandwiches? It is going to be tough but I think a bit of fun as well... I hope it doesn't last too long for you. ;-)

ReplyDeleteOur furnace broke one year on Christmas Eve and we were determined to have Christmas at home. We did...no heat, 20 degrees inside {I am from Chicago} and it turned out to be the BEST Christmas ever! The memories we made. We still talk about it. You will be amazed how resourceful you are!

When we were without power, I bought book lights from Woolies. They were great! We could all read of a night and they were also useful for walking around the house.

ReplyDeleteWe have a nightlight in our bathroom that is battery operated & you can stick them on the wall, we got it at woolies, the batteries last a long time in them & they put out a good amount of light.

As I child, I used to think blackouts were so much fun, especially when all the candles had to be dragged out. Once you work out the logistics of things like eskys, I'm sure it will all be fine. Hope the power returns for you sooner rather than later though xx

We lost power for 4 days when hurricane Ului showed its rage to us last year, I know thats nothing compared to you guys :( but we played cards & board games talked it was really enjoyable & we wouldnt have minded & few more days I think when the power did come back on that first night we kept the candels on. Happy camping hope you can make it enjoyable. x

ReplyDeleteAM. for the school lunch esky, you can get instant ice packs that you "bash" and it goes cold instantly. Might end up a bit expensive, but will keep the school lunches cold for a few hours.
