We are off to "Boating, Camping, Fishing" this morning to get an esky, some lanterns (to do homework by) and other camping paraphernalia required for our 'home camping' adventure. The boys reckon this is going to be fun.. and I'm sure that I will meet some interesting folk at the local laundromat when the need arises to action some washing. Main concern is getting lunches organised. My almost teenager eats like a horse hence takes an esky to school.. icepacks for esky?... hmmm, we'll work something out. We have gas so I can cook meals and boil water.
So today is 'Operation Home Camp'.... getting set up for our (please be no more than a week or two) camping at home. Wish us luck. I am sure there will be plenty of blog fodder over the next few days. Anyway, you will find me at 'The Coffee Club, West End', each morning after school drop off... sucking their power for my computer and phone, doing a blog post or two. I'll be the one with the 'non blow dried/GHD'ed hair' looking like she's just had a very cold shower! Actually I might just wear a cap for the next few weeks.

P.S. or I might pay 'Twitter: @JanetELeach' a call!

Head scarfs will now be all the rage!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with indoor camping :)
You may surprise yourself about how resourceful you can be.
Maybe look at it as a personal challenge - pretend its saving the planet from more greenhouse gases (lol)Just kidding!
You will be fine and it will be fun. At least you have the gas. That will make a big difference.
And I am sure the schools expectations about what the boys are able to achieve at home will be reasonable considering the disaster.
Good luck!
Hello AM , I know this is tough on you..let's look on the "creating memories" side....your boys will share these days with their children one day..xo Colette
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted an excuse to go to Boating, Camping, Fishing ha...be careful not to come home with a giant blow up thong for the beach..ha. I always think of those early Australians who came here with a dozen children and lived in remote hot areas...it must have been so hard! Well my dear you are now a pioneer... and all I can say is thank goodness for tuck shop!! If the boys need a TV fix I am not far away...there is currently half a dozen extra boys at my place, so two more (plus lizards ) would hardly be noticed..ha cheers Katherine
ReplyDeleteHi AM, We went through Larry and for ten days we had no water or power it was the most frustrating and funny period of my familys life. The best part it brought us closer together everything has a silver lining...take care xxD
ReplyDeleteSounds like a challenge! Be sure to stock up on dry shampoo - cuts down on cold shower time(eeek!) Good luck. B.xx
ReplyDeleteLooks like basic food that doesn't require to be kept overly cold for lunches this week. Do they like vegemite sandwiches? It is going to be tough but I think a bit of fun as well... I hope it doesn't last too long for you. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I'll be pulling for you. I've learned a new Aussie word today ...esky!
ReplyDeleteYep, how good is the word 'esky' ... conjures up great camping memories! A-M xx
ReplyDeleteOur furnace broke one year on Christmas Eve and we were determined to have Christmas at home. We did...no heat, 20 degrees inside {I am from Chicago} and it turned out to be the BEST Christmas ever! The memories we made. We still talk about it. You will be amazed how resourceful you are!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
When we were without power, I bought book lights from Woolies. They were great! We could all read of a night and they were also useful for walking around the house.
ReplyDeleteLove it and it is great that you will all be together:) What an adventure, I can almost feel your boys' excitment through the laptop. Hmm, hardest part for me I think is that cold shower idea, brrrr!! Can't wait to keep up with the camping adventures this week. ~ Tina x
ReplyDeleteSounds like some serious family bonding is about to occur on this camping trip!
ReplyDeleteWe have a nightlight in our bathroom that is battery operated & you can stick them on the wall, we got it at woolies, the batteries last a long time in them & they put out a good amount of light.
Good luck!
It sounds like the perfect Boys' Own Adventure!!! Hard work for you but the kids love that stuff. Good luck and I know you will find many precious moments in the coming days.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the 'camping' adventure and good on you for looking at the positive, fun experience it will be for your boys. As I child, I used to think blackouts were so much fun, especially when all the candles had to be dragged out. Once you work out the logistics of things like eskys, I'm sure it will all be fine. Hope the power returns for you sooner rather than later though xx
ReplyDeleteI imagine your boys wil love this! You might too...
ReplyDeletewhat doesn't kill us makes us stronger!!!! Happy camping
ReplyDeleteOh you will have fun I'm sure, well I hope you do? We lost power for 4 days when hurricane Ului showed its rage to us last year, I know thats nothing compared to you guys :( but we played cards & board games talked it was really enjoyable & we wouldnt have minded & few more days I think when the power did come back on that first night we kept the candels on. Happy camping hope you can make it enjoyable. x
ReplyDeleteThink of the memories this new adventure in life will create! Can't wait to read all about it.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck it will be good for your family to settle back into your home surroundings even without power and water
ReplyDeleteI say embrace a cap or a scarf.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with school- these holidays have been CRAZY for you A-M.
Stay Focussed c
Think of it as "Glamping"!!
ReplyDeleteHappy to help with the laundry. Just let me know???
Jo
I love the 'can do' attitude, A-M! You'll look just the part of a stoic Brisbanite who's making do with what she has - and with style ☺. I just want to see a photo of that hair...J x
ReplyDeletegood luck a-m!! I think it so precious that the boys think this will be 'fun'. sending you a hug.
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
joan
Glad to see how strong you are and I admire you immensely!
ReplyDeleteYour boys are great, too. Maybe they are learning from their awesome mom!
Have a great week at camp A-M.
Hi A-M,
ReplyDeleteI always where something on my head with bad hair days, looks fasionable (or so they say...). What does GHD-ed hair mean? English is not my first language...
Bye!
Maureen
Good luck today A-M I am sure you wil turn it in to an adventure that the boys will relish! So good to see you posting again and getting back on track. You have had a pretty uneviable time of it. Heres to a better 2011 for you. KG XX
ReplyDeleteOh, A-M and Sons,
ReplyDeleteYou've got some "pluck" to give it a go in your apartment! It sure will test your creative sides for food preparation!
As regards Janet and her offers of assistance: You're right, A-M, angels do reside upon this earth.
I hope the 'camping' goes well! I love the positive attitude that you and the boys have on everything! Letitia xx
ReplyDeleteHope it is not for to long... despite the reason .. the picture is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAM. for the school lunch esky, you can get instant ice packs that you "bash" and it goes cold instantly. Might end up a bit expensive, but will keep the school lunches cold for a few hours.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and have fun camping.
